A dream stays as a dream.

Wanted to blog about this earlier but the connection at Ixora was too good for me to do that.

Anyway, just finished watching the Dream Concert, the unedited part it is. Despite all the good bits that SBS aired on the Dream Concert broadcast, the whole event has already been tarnished.
It actually gave me nightmares.

The Dream Concert which was held on the 7th to boost Korean patriotism, instead only boosted the hostility between fan clubs.

The most significant issue on the Dream Concert 2008, was the “Silent Treatment” of all the present fan clubs towards So Nyeo Shi Dae's members and fans! For the first time ever in the history of Kpop (as far as I know) all the present fanclubs in the concert boycotted a single group: Girls Generation (So Nyeo Shi Dae aka SoShi).

During the Soshi's performance, other fanclubs remained silent and turned off their light sticks .. this only left the SoShi's fanclub cheering for their group, making SoShi's official color pink as the only visible color in the stands!

Before Soshi's perfomance:

During Soshi's performance:

The girls were being booed also.
Quite kesian lar...
Please. Don't doubt my sincerity and symphaty.
But seriously la, given Soshi's recent behaviors I think the silent treatment was well-earned, but the booing was a little harsh.
I mean, if they don't wanna cheer then fine, but to boo the girls??

I put the blame on the girl I dislike the most in Soshi.
The one who doesnt stand a chance to NOT disrespect her seniors in the name of being raised in the US and unfamiliar with the Korean culture.
The one who puts down her own group by messing up the dance moves intentionally to grab attention to herself or make fun of respectful singers only to embarrasses the whole entire group in public.

pictures made by Korean netizen ^^

Here are the stories in short:

Recently in the an episode of a show the girl stopped actor Kim Ji Suk in the middle of his singing and corrected his English on air! Kim Ji Suk who is her senior and a respectful actor felt so insulted by her behavior all through the rest of the program. It turned out that unlike the girl who doesn't even have her High School diploma from an English speaking country, Kim Ji Suk has English teaching certificate and has lived in both US and England for years. =.=

I watched the clip...Kim Ji Suk was taken aback and felt so embarrassed that he could not hold his head up for the rest of the show. Making the situation worse, she allowed herself to sing the song with the “correct” English pronunciation, not noticing that Kim Ji Suk’s face was getting redder. Ommo..the poor guy was just having fun!!

And, apparently, SoShi disrespectfully labeled Shinhwa's Jun Jin has ‘Junstin Jinberlake’ (they probably thought they were so clever) and did a ridiculous imitation of Jun Jin’s power-punch dance to his title song “Wa”on a radio show and seems like other members were there as well and they gave a big laugh at the imitation she was doing. On another TV program, the girl also commented with laugh that Hyesung’s voice is like a goat when singing. Which is worse. As if she sounds better than a goat herself!? (His vocals are amazing, btw.) They probably didn't even know who they just made fun of. Shinhwa is a legendary idol group in the history of Korea. I mean, show some respect lar.

It may seem absurd that I'm arguing over these “simple” matters. But this is Korea and there is a big cultural gap. In Korea, age is a big deal and in the entertainment industry, when you debuted is also a big deal. That means young kids must bow first to adults at 90 degrees. New artists must also call senior artists “sonbae” (senior) and use formal dialogue when conversing. In Korean society, respecting your elders is of utmost importance and that's why small slips of tongue can be a big deal in Korea.

However, at the end of the day it is important what Korean side of the story thinks, it is not our opinions that matters...it's those who are living in Korea, those who breath that air and pay these artists that has a saying.

OK la, enough for the “We hate Soshi, Soshi lovers hate us, and SoShi loves or hates whoever" thing. On a lighter note, here are some pictures that I really like from the concert. =D

Hehe. Sorry for the fangirlism XD

Overall, 2008 Dream Concert wasn't as bad as it seemed. Sure the fans got riled up and other what-nots, but these concert itself was a success. People are forgetting that this is indeed a charity concert for orphans and it accomplish its objective.

So, the concert was great. :D
